Koinè Language Center

Koine Center in Cortona was started in 1982 and presently co-operates with the local association “Polymnia” in the organisation of courses of Italian language and cultural programs representative of the local traditions.

Cortona, a small town of the Valdichiana in eastern Tuscany, offers the best of the country and the city. This classic hill town lies between Lago Trasimeno and the Appenine mountains. It is rich in archaeological wonders of the Etruscan, medieval, and Renaissance eras. During the summer, Cortona hosts numerous activities including film festivals, art and antique exhibitions, and a number of gastronomical fairs. The surrounding countryside offers stunning views and walks, hiking, and swimming at Lago Trasimeno. Cortona is within easy reach of some of the most beautiful and historic Tuscan and Umbrian towns and villages, including Arezzo and Gubbio. Through an arrangement with Cortona city officials, the Koinè Center organizes guided visits and excursions not available to the general public.

Thanks to the collaboration with the Cultural Association Polymnia , the classes of Centro Koinè are hosted in a building of the city centre. On the first day of the course participants will receive a folder containing the monthly program of afternoon cultural activities and excursions, a Cortona Tourist Office guide with useful addresses for a stay in Cortona and a list of cultural events planned during the period of the course. Classes are formed from 2 to 8 students for each level.

I would like to confirm how delighted I was with the course in Italian in Cortona. Everything was so well arranged. The accommodations were nice, the cultural program with excursions, seminars, olive oil tasting, and Italian cooking and meals were very well organized. Our teacher was excellent and did everything to deepen our Italian knowledge. I will always recommend this course to other interested people. The course helped me to get along very well with people in Italy.

Dear Serena, I know I should be writing this in Italian, but you know it would take me ages and I'd probably never finish it! Many, many thanks for a stimulating, fun, and exhausting two weeks learning Italian with you over Easter. I really enjoyed myself and have come home inspired to find a better teacher and to continue the struggle to speak more Italian. I shall certainly be returning! Please give my best wishes to all the other teachers. If you come to the UK, do get in touch and I'll show you some of the delights of this part of the Thames Valley. Kind regards and many thanks once again.
