Your holiday can include Italian conversation, cooking classes, countryside walks, trips to place of interest, history, traditional country life and much more.
Arrival. If you arrive by air, coach or train, we will collect you from Lucca railway station. You can of course arrive in your own car.
After settling in at the cottage, we will discuss the programme for the week then enjoy a traditional Tuscan dinner.
After breakfast at 8.30, we will explore the historical village of Colle di Compito and visit its traditional shops including the village bakery which produces traditional bread and focaccia and the butcher’s which produces a range of delicious cured meats, all 0km. We we will buy the ingredients for our dinner. Before returning to the cottage a visit to the village church is a must.
Afternoon free to relax until 5.30 then, after an explanation of typical Tuscan recipes we will prepare dinner using produce from the village.
A sociable dinner together rounds off the day.
After breakfast at 8.30 your host will tell you about the nearby lake ,Lago di Sesto, important to the area from ancient times. At 10.30 we will leave for the lake, now a protected area , rich in wildlife. We will have easy walk of about 3 hours through impressive and atmospheric scenery, pausing for a light lunch at a local bar, and return to the cottage in the afternoon.
At 6.30 your host will explain the traditional recipe on which tonight’s dinner is based , and we will prepare dinner together before settling down to a pleasant evening of good food and conversation.
After breakfast your host will outline the history of the fascinating city of Lucca., where we will spend today. We will explore the medieval city, steeped in history and legend and see the famous Guinigi tower, the cathedral, the botanical gardens and the amphitheatre. After a light lunch we will explore the main shopping street, the narrow and atmospheric via Filungo with its mix of traditional and modern shops
We return to the cottage in the afternoon, in time for dinner together.
After breakfast this morning’s talk focuses on the ancient Tuscan traditions of using wild flowers and herbs as medicines, a subject rich in history and folklore. At 11 we will take a walk among the olives, chestnuts and fruit trees before a light lunch at 1pm.
In the afternoon we will relax with Italian music before first an explanation of the recipe and technique,and then preparing, the home made pasta that will form part of tonight's dinner.
After breakfast, the morning is free for you to relax, perhaps take a walk in the woods surrounding the house or visit the village. We will have a light lunch at 1pm then, at 3pm, your host will outline the history of s. Andrea di Compito, a medieval village, which we will visit this afternoon. We will stroll through the village, famous for its festival of camellias and look at how they are cultivated. We will have dinner in a typical trattoria famous for its wonderful version of a traditional soup from Lucca. We return to the cottage in the evening.
