The school:
For pupils between 14-19 we offer a school program in Lucca, which includes attendance of a public school, usually a high school with previous 4-week language course, as well as accommodation with an Italian family with full-board.
As a foreign guest student you can choose between
• 1 school year (9 months)
• ½ school year (5 months)
• ¼ school year (3 months)
at a public Italian school. The lessons take place daily in the morning and in the afternoon.
Only a 9-months stay is recognised as a full school year. The Italian schools issue a qualification certificates, which usually are usually accepted by foreign schools. Foreign guest students, who stay for only 3 or 6 months are considered as “guest listeners” and therefore don’t get a qualification certificate.
The school year in Italy starts mid September. We therefore recommend you to organise your stay with the prior 4-weeks language course starting from beginning/ mid August.
The host family:
Those who choose to attend a public school, will get to know the Italian life in Lucca in a carefully chosen host family. Your host family is, like you, interested in the intercultural exchange and already has experience with foreign students. Italian families are well known for their cordiality with guests, they will help you to integrate into Italian society and often have children the same age as you. During daily breakfast, lunch and dinner you will be able to enjoy a vivid exchange with them.

The location:
LUCCA itself is one of the few Tuscan towns that retained its original urban structure. The ancient center was enclosed and protected by the Roman walls. Lucca developed within them until the end of the 19th century, creating an interesting superimposition of historical styles. Today the walls play an important part in town life, shielding the streets of the center from traffic and creating a ring of green around them. Lucca has developed into a modern city, at the same time retaining the characteristics of a little country town where ancient and modern coexist. Lucca's location is ideal; it is only 30 minutes from Pisa and the Mediterranean and 1 hour from Florence.
Participation requirements:
Requirements for the attendance of a high school in Lucca include as well as your already existing Italian language skills a 4-week language course (80 hours of lessons) at one of our Koinè language schools in Florence, Bologna, Cortona, Rio Marina (Elba) or directly in Lucca. Your knowledge of the Italian language should be at the advanced level.
In addition to the language course we offer a cultural program with excursions, sight-seeing tours and other activities in the afternoon at all our locations. So you don’t just work on your Italian language skills in an international group, but can also participate with the other students in various afternoon activities (depending on the location and activity we charge a small service fee).
